Scam WARNING- experts warn of new Shein Mystery Box scheme

Experts warn of a new phishing scam targeting shoppers of fast-fashion retailer Shein, putting users' personal information and money at risk.

Marc Porcar, CEO of QR Code Generator, warns shoppers to be wary of an email purportedly from Shein containing a coveted Shein Mystery Box and urging them to click a link to claim their prize.

“If you receive an email with a “Shein mystery box,” do not open it. It is a phishing email, not from Shein but from unidentified hackers looking to steal your personal information.

“Designed to trick recipients into clicking on a link that redirects them to a fake website, this website mimics Shein’s official website, allowing users to enter their personal information to win a prize.

“Whilst Shein does offer legitimate mystery boxes during promotions or special events, the way to know if they are legitimate is to recognize the website you are directed to.

"The website you are directed to by scammers mimics Shein’s, and the obvious way to indicate this is the URL, which is different from the official website.”

There are several fake Shein websites circulating the web, however there are ways you can spot these.

  • If the domain name does not match Shein’s official site (shein.com), variations should be considered untrustworthy
  • Check for a legitimate contact page with company addresses, customer service numbers, and employee information. Scam sites will often not have these
  • Search for online reviews of the website from a trusted independent source
  • Look for poorly edited images with watermarks or low resolutions. Shein uses professional photography for all of its products
  • Be cautious of prices that seem more than 50% lower than Shein’s real pricing, as extreme discounts are always suspicious
  • Watch out for spelling and grammar errors throughout the site
  • Make sure secure checkout protocols like “https” URLs and lock icons are present before entering payment details anywhere

Marc Porcar adds, “When speaking with customer service at Shein, it is important never to share any personal or payment information via phone call, text message, or WhatsApp. Shein only uses email and in-site chat for customer service.

“Shein is one of the world’s most popular shopping platforms, with more than 500 million downloads on the Google Play Store alone, scammers have a lot of potential to trick shoppers.”

Recent reports reveal cybersecurity researchers identified a malware campaign named Mal. This campaign involved more than 1,000 phishing emails impersonating Shein. These emails featured misleading subject lines and links to credential-harvesting sites.

For those who have ever placed an order through a fraudulent Shein website and had personal information stolen, or have not received an item, Marc Porcar shares what steps to take:

“First things first, immediately contact your bank or payment provider to stop any pending transactions and explain you have paid a scam website impersonating Shein. You can then dispute the charges as fraud.

“Ensure you check your credit card statements and bank account closely for any unauthorized charges from the fake website and report any if so.

“Contact the legit Shein customer support using the number on their official website to flag the fake website.

“To warn other potential victims, leave online reviews about your experience with the scam site to warn other potential victims.

“Continue to be vigilant about any potential identity theft that could occur if personal information was entered on the fake site and monitor all of your credit reports.

“To file an official Internet crime report about the fraudulent website, contact the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.”

Spain among the countries that have produced the most Premier League talent, study reveals

The countries that have produced the most Premier League talent

  • Spain ranks fourth globally, having produced 165 Premier League players since 1992
  • France takes the top spot, with 234 Premier League players
  • England and Wales have produced a combined 1,815 players since the foundation of the Premier League

New research has discovered which countries outside of England and Wales have produced the most Premier League players, with Spain ranking fourth.

The Premier League is comprised of football teams from England and Wales, with players from all over the world.

Experts at Gambling 'N Go analysed the nationalities of every footballer who has played in the Premier League since its foundation in 1992, in order to determine which countries outside of England and Wales have produced the most top flight players.

At the top of the list is France, with a remarkable 234 Premier League players. Thierry Henry is among the most highly regarded French players. He was one of the Premier League's most iconic figures during his time with Arsenal from 1999 to 2007, and briefly in 2012. Known for his extraordinary pace and technical skill, Henry redefined the role of a forward. He played a pivotal role in Arsenal's success, including their historic unbeaten season in 2003-04. Henry's incredible goal-scoring ability earned him four Premier League Golden Boots, and he became Arsenal's all-time leading scorer.

In second place is Scotland, with 217 players, including Darren Fletcher. Fletcher, who started his career as a Midfielder for Manchester United, made over 340 appearances for the team under Sir Alex Ferguson. He played a role in securing five Premier League titles and contributing significantly to the team's Champions League triumph in 2008. Beyond his club success, Fletcher earned 80 caps for Scotland, placing him among the country's most capped players, surpassed only by legends like Jim Leighton and Kenny Dalglish.

The Republic of Ireland is third, producing 200 Premier League players, with one being Roy Keane. He joined Manchester United as a midfielder in 1993, and then became the club’s first non-British captain in 1997. He drove the team to numerous successes, including seven Premier League titles and a historic treble in 1999. He has coached at several clubs since his retirement in 2005 and remains among Manchester United’s all-time greats.

Next on the list is Spain, with 165 players having graced the English top flight. Among these players is David Silva, a maestro in midfield and a key figure for Manchester City from 2010 to 2020. Renowned for his skill, he earned the nickname "El Mago" (The Magician). He was instrumental in City's rise to prominence, helping secure four Premier League titles and numerous domestic cups. Silva's ability to control the game and create scoring opportunities made him one of the most consistent and admired players in the league.
